We recently spoke with Professor José Gonzalez Juanatey, cardiologist and board member of World Heart Federation, Spain. Professor Juanatey discussed how comprehensive heart health needs to be promoted in Europe, some of the challenges associated with adopting a holistic approach to cardiovascular care, and the importance of implementing a robust cardiovascular strategy.

We asked Professor Juanatey three questions:

  1. What are the most significant ways for promoting comprehensive heart health in Europe?
  2. How can the World Health Federation contribute to addressing barriers and challenges associated with holistic heart health in Europe?
  3. What are your hopes for the future of cardiovascular care?

Professor Juanatey believes that a holistic approach to cardiovascular care across Europe is needed to address discrepancies and inequities in cardiovascular health. By educating people, improving socioeconomic status, and implementing a plan that incorporates gender disparities, strides can be made towards reducing the impact of cardiovascular disease and premature loss of life across Europe.
