We must invest in women. We can’t afford not to.

Daiichi Sankyo Europe recognises that cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a complex and silent condition, arising from several risk factors, and often interconnected with other conditions. This is why we emphasise the need for a holistic approach to cardiovascular care and do our best to ensure that every doctor, patient and caregiver has the knowledge and support they need for a healthier, more informed future.

About partnering with Women as One

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women globally, accounting for 1 in 3 deaths.1

Most people are not aware that women with cardiovascular disease remain under diagnosed, under treated and underrepresented in clinical research. This issue also extends to the real world, where women do not receive accurate or timely diagnoses and care, compared to their male counterparts. The outcomes of women patients can be improved by an increase of women in leading cardiologist roles.1 However globally, women comprise roughly 20% of cardiologists and hold less than 10% of leadership positions in the field.1 Daiichi Sankyo Europe is eager to change that.

In 2025, Daiichi Sankyo Europe is partnering with Women as One, a non-profit organisation that stands at the forefront of promoting gender equity in cardiology. They are dedicated to this cause by providing unique professional opportunities to women cardiologists. By joining forces, we:

  • aim to broaden the involvement of women as thought leaders in scientific activities, advisory boards and clinical trials,
  • support experts in gender-specific cardiovascular disease research and treatment to improve representation in trials and patient outcomes,
  • recognise the gender inequalities in cardiovascular care and continuously explore ways to address these gaps and raise awareness of personalised treatment of CVD.

Stories from the Wall

This spring, we invited women attending a cardiology conference to share their voices on our Storytelling Wall. Women from all walks of life shared the challenges, triumphs and lived realities of being in this field. And men told us about the women cardiologists that inspire them and why they are eager to be part of this important conversation.

Each handwritten note tells a story.
